Vessel Description

FSO THAPSUS is a large Floating Storage and Offloading unit permanently stationed in the Gulf of Gabes off the coast of Tunisia in the Mediterranean Sea. Originally constructed as a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) at Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea in 1987, the vessel was subsequently converted to an FSO unit to serve Tunisia's offshore petroleum production operations. As a non-self-propelled facility, it operates under the management of ETAP, Tunisia's national petroleum enterprise, receiving crude oil from offshore production fields via subsea pipelines and transfer systems, storing the oil, and offloading to shuttle tankers for export and distribution. The vessel represents a critical component of Tunisia's offshore hydrocarbon export infrastructure in the Mediterranean.
