Vessel Description

The Henrique Dias is a patrol vessel (Navio-Patrulha) operated by the Brazilian Navy (Marinha do Brasil), designated class NPa (Navio Patrulha). She was constructed by INACE, a Brazilian shipyard based in Fortaleza, Ceará, which has been a key supplier of patrol and offshore vessels to the Brazilian Navy. The vessel is named after the celebrated Brazilian military figure Henrique Dias, a 17th-century Afro-Brazilian military commander known for his role in the resistance against Dutch colonial forces in Brazil.

As a patrol vessel, her primary missions include:

  • Maritime surveillance and enforcement of Brazilian maritime law
  • Search and rescue (SAR) operations
  • Anti-smuggling and anti-piracy patrol duties
  • Protection of Brazil's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
  • Support to environmental protection and fisheries control operations

The vessel is representative of Brazil's national shipbuilding initiative aimed at increasing domestic naval construction capacity and reducing reliance on foreign-built warships.
