The vessel is equipped to deploy scientific sampling gear and conduct hydrographic measurements in support of national and international fisheries management programs, including those coordinated through ICES (International Council for the Exploration of the Sea). The Vigo homeport reflects the city's longstanding role as a major hub for Spanish marine research and fisheries science.
