Turbine Specifications

Rated Power: 6 MW.
Drive System: Permanent Magnet Direct-Drive (PMDD), which is a hallmark of Goldwind's advanced and cost-efficient turbine designs.

The 6MW prototype turbine was installed at a test site in Dafeng, Jiangsu province, China, with the assembly completed in 2014.
The turbine is undergoing testing to optimize its performance before entering mass production.

Lidar Technology: Goldwind has integrated ZephIR lidar systems into the prototype to optimize its performance, measure power curves, and assist in the certification process by DNV GL.
Environmental Control System: Although specific to the 6S platform, Goldwind's turbines often feature integrated environmental control systems and Condition Monitoring Systems (CMS) for online monitoring, fault pre-warning, and pre-diagnosis. This technology is likely to be adapted or included in the 6MW prototype.

The use of lidar technology, such as the ZephIR DM system, helps in optimizing the turbine's performance by providing accurate wind measurements. This data is crucial for fine-tuning the turbine's operation and ensuring it meets the required standards before mass production.

Direct-Drive Design: The turbine features a direct-drive configuration, which eliminates the need for a gearbox, enhancing reliability and reducing maintenance costs.
Assembly and Commissioning: While the 6S platform delivers the RNA (hub, generator, converter, and step-up transformer) as a whole after assembly and commissioning, it is likely that similar efficient assembly and commissioning processes are applied to the 6MW prototype to ensure high-quality and high-efficiency operation.

Goldwind's progress in offshore wind, including this 6MW prototype, is part of the company's strategy to compete in the global offshore wind market. Despite slower than expected progress in China, the deployment of this prototype marks a significant step towards commercial readiness.

Smart Control Systems: While specific to the 6S platform, Goldwind's turbines often include smart control systems like the Efarm lidar-assisted smart control system, which could be adapted or integrated into future versions of the 6MW prototype to enhance energy production and reduce loads on the turbine.
