Nordergrunde

Location

The Nordergründe offshore wind farm is situated approximately 15 kilometers to the north-east of Wangerooge Island, within the 12-nautical mile zone of the German North Sea.

Water Depth

The wind farm is located in water depths of up to ten meters.

Turbines and Capacity

The wind farm consists of 18 Senvion turbines of the type 6.2M126. These turbines collectively provide a total installed capacity of 110.7 MW, though it is often rounded to 111 MW.

Development and Operation

The project was developed by wpd (WINDMW GmbH), a German wind energy company. The first turbine was installed in August 2016, marking a significant milestone in the project's development.

The wind farm was fully commissioned and connected to the grid by December 17, 2017. It is operated by DWT, a non-OEM operator in the wind offshore business, in collaboration with Skyborn Renewables, which is involved in the construction and operation of the project.

John Laing acquired a 30% stake in the Nordergründe wind farm in 2016, alongside Skyborn Renewables. This investment was part of John Laing's portfolio in renewable energy projects.
