Rudong South
- Type: Wind Farm
- Latitude: 32.6450000
- Longitude: 121.2420000
Location
The wind farm is located off the coast of Rudong County, Jiangsu Province in East China, approximately 3km to 8km away from the shore. This area is characterized by an intertidal zone, where the location becomes dry at low tide but is covered by up to five meters of water at high tide.
Capacity and Phases
The Jiangsu Rudong Offshore Wind Farm is a 150MW project, divided into two phases:
- Phase I: This phase has an installed capacity of 100MW.
- Phase II: This phase has an installed capacity of 50MW.
The segment using Siemens turbines is part of Phase I, which is the 100MW phase.
Turbines
In the 100MW Phase I, 21 of the turbines are Siemens models:
- Turbine Model: Siemens wind turbines, each rated at 2.38MW.
- Rotor Diameter: 101 meters.
- Foundations: These turbines are grounded on multi-jacket foundations.
Construction and Operation
- Construction Start: The construction of the project began in June 2011.
- Completion: The 100MW Phase I was completed by the end of 2011.
- Grid Connection: Grid connection for all turbines was completed in September 2012.
- Commercial Operation: The wind farm began full commercial operation in November 2012.
Environmental Impact
The project is designed to generate significant environmental benefits:
- Annual Electricity Generation: Approximately 375 million kWh of electricity per year.
- Carbon Dioxide Reduction: Reduces about 247,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
- Coal Savings: Saves about 97,000 tons of standard coal per year.
Construction Methodology
The construction in the intertidal zone required specialized equipment and techniques:
- Construction Equipment: The project used a barge equipped with a 360-degree slewing lifting system with an 800-ton capacity and S-800 hydraulic hammers.
- Tide-Based Installation: The barge was moved during rising tide and stopped for installation after the tide fell.
Developer and Ownership
The project was developed by China Longyuan Power Group through its subsidiary Jiangsu Longyuan Offshore Wind Power. China Longyuan Power Group is a subsidiary of the state-owned China Guodian.
National Significance
The Jiangsu Rudong Offshore Wind Farm is a significant project for China, showcasing the country's capabilities in offshore wind power technology and serving as a model for future nationwide wind power development.
