Vessel Description

The P&O PIONEER is a modern Ro-Pax (Roll-on/Roll-off Passenger) ferry delivered in 2023 as part of P&O Ferries' fleet renewal program under the ownership of DP World. The vessel is one of the most significant new builds introduced to the Dover–Calais short-sea route in recent years.

The ship is notable for its dual-fuel LNG propulsion system, making it one of the more environmentally advanced ferries operating on the English Channel, significantly reducing SOx, NOx, and CO2 emissions compared to conventional heavy fuel oil-powered vessels.

Built at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China, the P&O PIONEER is designed for high-frequency, high-capacity short-sea operations, capable of accommodating over 1,000 passengers alongside substantial freight and passenger vehicle capacity in excess of 3,100 lane meters.

Registered under the Cypriot flag, the vessel operates commercially under the P&O Ferries brand, which is wholly owned by the global logistics and ports operator DP World. The introduction of P&O PIONEER represents part of a broader investment strategy by DP World to modernize the P&O Ferries fleet and improve the environmental profile of cross-Channel operations.

Note: Some technical specifications, particularly detailed engine configurations and exact capacity figures, should be verified against Lloyd's Register, DNV vessel database, or official P&O Ferries documentation for absolute precision.
