Vessel Description

AKRABERG is a modern passenger and Ro-Ro cargo ferry operating under the flag of the Faroe Islands, owned and operated by Strandfaraskip Landsins (SSL), the national ferry company of the Faroe Islands. The vessel was constructed at Tersan Shipyard in Turkey and delivered in 2019, representing one of the newer additions to the SSL fleet.

Designed specifically for the challenging weather and sea conditions of the North Atlantic, AKRABERG provides essential transport links between the islands of the Faroese archipelago, carrying both passengers and rolling cargo (vehicles, freight). The vessel plays a vital role in maintaining connectivity for Faroese communities on islands that are not accessible via the country's road and tunnel network.

The vessel incorporates modern hybrid/diesel-electric propulsion systems, reflecting a commitment to fuel efficiency and reduced environmental impact. With a length of approximately 114.9 metres and a gross tonnage of 8,717 GT, AKRABERG is a mid-sized ferry well suited to the relatively short inter-island passages characteristic of Faroese waters.
