Vessel Description
FSRU Toscana is a permanently moored floating storage and regasification unit operating in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the coast of Livorno, Italy. Originally constructed as an LNG carrier under the name Golar Frost by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, the vessel was subsequently converted into an FSRU to serve as Italy's first offshore LNG terminal.
The facility receives LNG from conventional LNG carrier tankers via ship-to-ship transfer operations conducted at the offshore mooring location. Stored LNG is then regasified onboard using seawater-based vaporization systems and injected into the Italian national gas transmission network through a dedicated subsea pipeline, providing an important contribution to Italy's gas supply diversification strategy.
The terminal is operated by OLT Offshore LNG Toscana S.p.A. and has been in commercial operation since 2013, representing a key piece of energy infrastructure for the Tuscany region and the broader Italian energy market.
