Vessel Description
ATLANTIS is a general-purpose oceanic research vessel operated by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. She serves as the primary support ship for the deep-submergence vehicle Alvin, one of the world's most well-known human-occupied research submersibles. The vessel is equipped with extensive scientific laboratory spaces, wet labs, and specialized oceanographic equipment to support a wide range of research missions including biology, geology, chemistry, and physical oceanography. The ship maintains a dedicated A-frame and handling system on her stern specifically designed for Alvin launch and recovery operations. ATLANTIS is capable of sustained blue-water operations and has conducted research missions across all major ocean basins.
