Vessel Description
BAP Tacna is a Lupo-class guided missile frigate serving in the Marina de Guerra del Perú. The vessel is one of several Lupo-class frigates acquired by Peru from Italy, representing a significant component of the Peruvian Navy's surface combatant force. The Lupo class was designed and built by Fincantieri and has been widely exported, with Peru operating one of the largest Lupo-class fleets outside of Italy.
The frigate is equipped with a comprehensive weapons suite typical of the Lupo class, including Otomat anti-ship missiles, an 127mm OTO Melara naval gun, Aspide surface-to-air missiles, anti-submarine torpedo tubes, and an embarked helicopter capability. The vessel is designed for multi-mission operations including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, and limited area air defense, making it a versatile asset within the Peruvian Navy's order of battle. BAP Tacna operates primarily in the Pacific Ocean along the western coast of South America and contributes to Peru's maritime sovereignty and regional security commitments.
